Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) has launched the 2026 Toyota Fortuner Leader Edition in the Indian market. This special edition of the company’s popular premium SUV targets buyers who want the Fortuner’s familiar road presence along with blacked-out styling and some extra touches in the cabin.
This time the changes focus on exterior styling, interior appearance and convenience features rather than mechanical upgrades.

The starting price of the 2026 Toyota Fortuner Leader Edition has been kept at Rs. 36.51 lakh (ex-showroom). The SUV will be available in two configurations, which include 4×2 manual and 4×2 automatic transmission options.
The automatic variant is priced at Rs. 38.72 lakh (ex-showroom). As per Toyota’s official announcement, bookings will start from 12 October 2026.

2026 Toyota Fortuner Leader Edition Price and Variants
| Variant | Ex-showroom Price |
|---|---|
| Fortuner Leader Edition 4×2 MT | Rs. 36.51 lakh |
| Fortuner Leader Edition 4×2 AT | Rs. 38.72 lakh |
The price difference between the two variants is Rs. 2.21 lakh. The important thing for buyers here is that the Leader Edition is currently offered in a 4×2 configuration. If you primarily want city driving, highway journeys, and the Fortuner’s bold SUV character, the choice between a manual and automatic will depend on your driving preference and budget.
Note that these are ex-showroom prices. The final amount will increase after RTO charges, insurance, and applicable local charges are added to the on-road price.
Blacked-Out Exterior Styling Is the Main Highlight

The most noticeable difference in the 2026 Toyota Fortuner Leader Edition is its exterior treatment. Toyota has given the SUV several styling enhancements to visually distinguish it from the standard Fortuner. It includes a signature front grille, an exclusive hood emblem, body-side moldings, and gloss-black alloy wheels with matching-finish hubcaps.
The SUV also gets a black roof treatment, a black-finished antenna, and a black rear garnish. These elements add a distinctive look to the Fortuner’s already muscular design. The black accents may appeal to buyers who prefer a darker, sportier appearance over traditional chrome-heavy styling.
Color options include Super White, Platinum White Pearl, and Attitude Black. The combination of these colors with black exterior elements further highlights the special edition’s styling.

Black and Maroon Theme in the Interior
Toyota has used a black and maroon color combination in the cabin. The 2026 Toyota Fortuner Leader Edition features dual-tone black and maroon seat upholstery with matching door trims. Ambient lighting and illuminated scuff plates enhance the overall appearance of the cabin.
These changes focus on interior ambiance rather than feature-heavy technology upgrades. Therefore, buyers may find the cabin’s visual experience more distinctive compared to the standard Fortuner, but don’t expect any major redesigns to the infotainment or dashboard architecture.

Toyota also highlights convenience features like a tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) and automatically folding outside rear-view mirrors (ORVMs). The TPMS helps monitor tire pressure, while folding mirrors can be useful in tight parking spaces.
Features and Safety: What will you get?
The Fortuner range comes with equipment such as LED lighting, automatic climate control, touchscreen infotainment, and parking assistance. However, the complete equipment list for each standard variant for the Leader Edition has not been detailed separately in the official announcement.
Therefore, it is best to finalize the exact availability of specific features, including seat ventilation, touchscreen connectivity, and safety equipment, with the dealership.
Buyers should check the variant-wise specification sheet before booking, especially if their priority is comfort features, infotainment connectivity, or additional safety equipment.
Engine and Performance: No Major Mechanical Changes
The existing 2.8-liter, four-cylinder diesel engine continues in the 2026 Toyota Fortuner Leader Edition. According to available specifications, the engine produces 150 kW, approximately 201 hp, and 420 Nm of torque with a 6-speed manual gearbox. With the automatic transmission, torque output reaches 500 Nm.
No major upgrades have been announced to the powertrain. This means the main selling point of the Leader Edition is not the additional engine power, but the exterior styling and cabin enhancements. The SUV has a seating capacity of seven occupants.
Another important point: This special edition is listed with the regular 2.8-liter diesel powertrain. Buyers should not assume a mild-hybrid system or any new engine option, as Toyota has not announced such an upgrade for this edition.
Toyota Ownership Benefits and Booking Details
Toyota has also highlighted ownership support with the Fortuner Leader Edition. According to the company’s announcement, buyers will receive five years of complimentary roadside assistance and a standard three-year/100,000 km warranty.
The warranty can be extended to five years/220,000 km under applicable terms. The Toyota Smiles Plus service program is also available.
Bookings will open from October 12, 2026, through Toyota’s official website and authorized dealerships.
Auto India Daily Verdict
The 2026 Toyota Fortuner Leader Edition is a styling-focused update, not an all-new Fortuner or a major mechanical upgrade. At a starting price of Rs. 36.51 lakh, it could appeal to buyers who want the Fortuner’s established SUV image along with a blacked-out exterior, dual-tone cabin and additional convenience features.
But it’s important to compare the price difference and equipment list with the standard Fortuner when making a purchase decision. If engine performance, 4×4 capability or significant technology upgrades are your top priorities, choosing the Leader Edition solely on the basis of the special-edition badge won’t be the right choice. Its real appeal is the combination of distinctive styling and the familiar Fortuner package.
