2027 Hyundai Tucson N Could Be a 350-HP Hybrid SUV – Here’s What We Know

Hyundai may be planning to introduce a much hotter performance version of its redesigned Tucson SUV. The 2027 Hyundai Tucson N could reportedly be a performance-focused hybrid SUV, with power output potentially reaching 300 to 350 horsepower.

According to Auto Express, Hyundai is working on using hybrid powertrains for its N performance models not only for improved fuel efficiency but also to generate extra performance. The next-generation Tucson could be a key candidate for this strategy.

2027 Hyundai Tucson N: Performance-Focused Hybrid Setup

According to Hyundai N’s Joon Park, the company doesn’t want to limit its future performance models to just EVs. Hybrid technology could also be part of the Hyundai N lineup alongside ICE-based models.

However, Hyundai’s approach could be different compared to standard hybrid models. The hybrid system’s primary focus here could be on providing additional performance and stronger acceleration rather than fuel economy.

Auto Express estimates that the Tucson N’s output could be approximately between 300bhp and 350bhp. This figure is not yet a confirmed specification from Hyundai.

Could be significantly more powerful than the current Tucson Hybrid

For comparison, the upcoming regular 2027 Hyundai Tucson Hybrid has a reported output of around 242 hp and 280 lb-ft.

If the Tucson N achieves outputs around 300-350 hp, it would be a significant performance jump compared to the standard Tucson Hybrid.

This could give Hyundai a stronger position in the performance-oriented hybrid SUV segment.

AWD and Performance Hardware Expected

Hyundai may also make upgrades to the chassis and drivetrain to effectively handle the Tucson N’s potential power output.

According to a report by Auto Express, the Tucson N is likely to get an all-wheel drive (AWD) system. Additionally, the performance SUV could see changes such as:

  • Adaptive suspension
  • Larger performance-oriented wheels
  • Wider tires
  • Upgraded brakes
  • More aggressive chassis tuning

However, Hyundai has not yet officially confirmed any of these features.

New Tucson Already Getting a Major Redesign

The 2027 Tucson standard model itself is taking a significantly different approach from the previous-generation SUV. Hyundai has significantly updated the design of the next-generation Tucson, and its overall look is bolder and more distinctive than before.

If Hyundai develops the Tucson N using this new-generation platform and design as a base, the performance version could receive noticeable changes to the exterior as well as the suspension, brakes, and steering setup.

Could Challenge Performance Hybrid SUVs

If the 2027 Hyundai Tucson N launches in the 300-350 hp range, it could create interesting competition in the performance-oriented hybrid SUV market.

Hyundai’s biggest advantage could be that the Tucson is already an established global SUV nameplate. With the N treatment, the company could position it as a combination of a practical family SUV and a performance vehicle.

Comparisons with Toyota’s performance-focused SUV plans could also be interesting, although the exact rivals and specifications will only become clear after the Tucson N’s official launch.

Auto India Daily Verdict

The 2027 Hyundai Tucson N could be an interesting move for Hyundai, especially if the company aggressively tunes hybrid technology for performance. Output of 300-350 hp could give the Tucson a very distinct character from a normal family SUV.

But most importantly, the Tucson N is not an officially confirmed production model. Power output, AWD, suspension upgrades, and launch timeline are currently based on reports and estimates.

If Hyundai genuinely introduces a performance hybrid Tucson around 350 hp, it could be a very interesting new direction for the N division.
