Tata Motors’ next-generation compact SUV, the 2027 Tata Nexon, has been spotted testing once again, and the SUV’s alloy wheels have grabbed the most attention in the latest spy shots.
The heavily camouflaged test mule has been spotted with black-and-machined alloy wheels similar to the Tata Curvv, sparking speculation that the new Nexon could get a larger wheel setup.

The current-generation Nexon comes with 16-inch wheels in higher variants, while 18-inch alloys with a similar design are available in higher variants of the Curvv. So, it is interesting to see Curvv-style wheels on the latest test mule. However, the 18-inch wheel size has not been officially confirmed by Tata Motors yet.

2027 Tata Nexon Spy with Curvv-Style Alloy Wheels
In the latest spy images, the test mule is under heavy camouflage, but the alloy wheel design is clearly visible from the side profile. The black-and-machined pattern of the wheels closely matches the design available on the Tata Curvv. According to reports, this design has been seen on the Curvv in 17-inch and 18-inch configurations, depending on the variant.
For this reason, it is not possible to directly confirm the 18-inch size based on the wheel design alone. Tire sidewall markings are also not clearly readable in photographs. In development vehicles, manufacturers may use existing production wheels for testing, so the final production-spec wheel size may be different.
If Tata introduces 18-inch wheels on the production model, they will be a noticeable upgrade from the current Nexon’s 16-inch setup.
Major Design Changes Expected in the New Nexon
The latest test mule isn’t just interesting because of the new alloy wheels. Earlier spy shots showed the 2027 Tata Nexon overall profile looking noticeably different from the current model. There are indications of changes to the C-pillar area, body proportions, and rear section, suggesting this could be a proper generation change rather than another routine facelift.
The latest spy images of the front profile also show changes. However, due to camouflage, it’s not yet possible to accurately identify the production-spec headlamp, grille, and bumper design.
The current Nexon received a major facelift in 2023, so the expected next-generation model’s arrival in 2027 will be after roughly a decade of its product lifecycle. According to reports, the development program is being internally referred to by the codename Garud, although Tata Motors has not officially confirmed this name.

What will change with the 18-inch alloys?
If the higher variants of the 2027 Tata Nexon come with 18-inch alloy wheels, the SUV’s road presence and sporty stance will definitely change. Bigger wheels could give the wheel arches a more filled-up look, especially since the body design of the next-gen model is also reported to be more upright and muscular.
But the impact of bigger wheels is not just limited to styling. Larger wheels can be used with lower-profile tires, which can impact ride comfort, tire replacement costs, and durability on rough Indian roads. For this reason, Tata may offer larger wheels on higher variants and smaller wheel options on lower trims.
In the compact SUV segment, rivals like the Mahindra XUV 3XO, Skoda Kylaq, and Kia Syros offer 17-inch alloy wheels in higher variants. If the 2027 Tata Nexon gets an 18-inch option, it would be a notable upgrade in the segment based on wheel diameter.
Major Changes Expected in Powertrain Options
Reports have mentioned multiple options regarding the 2027 Tata Nexon powertrain lineup. Petrol, diesel and CNG options are likely to continue, while an updated electric version could also become part of the lineup. However, Tata Motors has not yet officially revealed the final engine specifications, outputs or transmission combinations.
Some reports suggest that Tata may update the ICE engines of the future Nexon with higher ethanol-blend compatibility. CarWale has also mentioned the possibility of higher ethanol compatibility in the latest spy report, but production-spec engine details are not yet confirmed.
Hence, it would not be correct to present the exact power, torque, gearbox and fuel-efficiency figures as confirmed specifications at this time.
2027 Tata Nexon Launch Timeline
Reports of the next-generation 2027 Tata Nexon launching in India in 2027 are consistent, but Tata Motors has not yet announced an official launch date. The SUV is currently in testing, and the latest spy shots indicate ongoing development.
Details on the exterior design, interior, features, powertrain, and variant-wise wheel sizes are expected to gradually emerge as launch approaches. Currently, the curved-style alloys are the most interesting visible update on the latest prototype.
