The All-New Mitsubishi Pajero is finally back. After months of teasers, the company globally debuted the new-generation Pajero on September 2, 2026.
This time, the iconic off-roader is positioned not just as a modern interpretation of the old Pajero, but as Mitsubishi’s new flagship SUV.

The new Pajero retains the off-road credentials of the previous model, but now features a more premium design, comfortable cabin, modern technology, and more sophisticated driving systems.
More importantly, the new Pajero is offered with a ladder-frame chassis, a 2.4-liter clean-diesel engine, Super Select 4WD-II, and S-AWC. This means Mitsubishi has not only tried to make this SUV look premium, but has also maintained its hardcore off-road character.

All-New Mitsubishi Pajero: Bold and Premium Design
The new Pajero’s exterior is inspired by Mitsubishi’s existing design language, but its overall stance is more substantial and imposing.
The SUV features an upright front profile, a prominent grille, and distinctive T-shaped LED headlights. Mitsubishi has also developed different grille designs, including horizontal-bar and honeycomb-style options.
The body features strong character lines and muscular wheel arches. The flat roofline and large glass area give the SUV the look of a traditional adventure vehicle, while premium detailing makes it significantly more sophisticated than the previous Pajero.
However, the rear-mounted spare wheel, one of the most recognizable features of the previous Pajero, is no longer there. The new SUV has placed the spare wheel underneath. Instead, the rear design subtly references the old Pajero’s spare wheel design through a hexagonal styling element.
2.4-Litre Diesel Engine and 480Nm Torque
The All-New Mitsubishi Pajero is powered by a 2.4-liter clean-diesel engine. It uses a wide-range single variable-geometry turbocharger.
The engine’s maximum torque is 480Nm, which will be useful for low-speed and off-road driving. Mitsubishi has paired it with a new 8-speed automatic transmission.
The maximum horsepower figure has not yet been highlighted in Mitsubishi’s official global release. Therefore, it is better to wait for the official figure rather than speculating about power output.
This engine setup indicates that Pajero has prioritized a proven diesel powertrain and serious off-road hardware rather than a complete shift to electrification.
The new Pajero will come with a ladder-frame chassis
The most important mechanical highlight of the new Pajero is its high-rigidity ladder frame.
Mitsubishi developed this platform with durability and off-road performance in mind. The suspension setup includes an independent double-wishbone arrangement at the front and a five-link rigid axle at the rear.
The purpose of this setup is not only to provide better wheel movement in rough terrain, but also to achieve a more controlled and comfortable ride on highways and normal roads.
Mitsubishi has also identified “off-road comfort” as a major target in the development of the new Pajero. This means the company wants the SUV to be capable on rough terrain and comfortable on long-distance road trips.

Super Select 4WD-II and S-AWC
The biggest attraction of the new Pajero for off-road enthusiasts will be its 4WD hardware.
The SUV features Mitsubishi’s Super Select 4WD-II (SS4-II) system. The driver can select different drivetrain modes based on road conditions:
- 2H
- 4H
- 4HLc
- 4LLc
It also features Mitsubishi’s Super-All Wheel Control (S-AWC) system, which manages vehicle dynamics during acceleration, cornering, and braking.
The SUV also offers a total of seven drive modes—Normal, Eco, Gravel, Snow, Mud, Sand, and Rock.
In other words, instead of making the Pajero solely a highway-oriented premium SUV, Mitsubishi has tried to keep it a genuinely capable off-roader.
230mm Ground Clearance and Serious Off-Road Angles
The new Pajero’s dimensions also make it a proper off-road SUV.
It offers up to 230mm of ground clearance. Its approach angle is reported to be 30.4 degrees, ramp breakover angle 22.6 degrees, and departure angle 25.8 degrees.
The SUV measures 4,920mm in length, 1,925mm in width, and has a wheelbase of 2,870mm.
This means the All-New Mitsubishi Pajero falls into full-size premium SUV territory in terms of size, but Mitsubishi has tried to give it a shape that makes it easily maneuverable on urban roads.
All-New Mitsubishi Pajero: Cabin More Premium
The interior of the new Pajero is quite different from the rugged philosophy of the old model.
The dashboard has a horizontal layout and features an integrated screen setup with two 14.3-inch displays. A 12.3-inch display will also be available in some specifications.
The interior features soft-touch materials and premium trims. Mitsubishi has also worked extensively on refinement to make the cabin quieter.
An interesting feature is the Multi-Meter system from the previous Pajero
The old triple-gauge setup has now been replaced with a modern digital format. This system can display information such as altitude, compass direction, temperature, vehicle pitch, and roll angles.
In other words, instead of completely abandoning the old Pajero’s identity, Mitsubishi has integrated it with modern technology.
7-Seater SUV and Family-Friendly Cabin
The All-New Mitsubishi Pajero is a three-row, seven-seat SUV.
The second row can be slid and tumbled, making access to the third row easier. The flat roofline also prioritizes headroom for rear passengers.
Premium variants use leather and soft-touch materials. Features like double-glazed glass and an acoustic windshield in the cabin also help enhance refinement.
Further available equipment includes a 12-speaker Yamaha audio system, tri-zone climate control, rear sunshades, cooled center-armrest storage, and heated second-row seats.
Advanced Safety and ADAS Features
Mitsubishi has provided a long list of safety and driver-assistance features in the new Pajero.
This includes systems like Forward Collision Mitigation, Predictive Forward Collision Warning, Emergency Assist for Pedal Misapplication, and Emergency Lane Assist.
The SUV also features the MI-PILOT highway driving assistance system, which combines Adaptive Cruise Control and Lane Keep Assist.
The All-New Mitsubishi Pajero also comes with eight airbags, including Mitsubishi’s new SRS center airbag.
When will the All-New Mitsubishi Pajero arrive in India?
Mitsubishi will first produce and launch the new Pajero in Thailand. Its launch in Japan and Australia is planned for FY2026. Starting in FY2027, the company plans to introduce it in approximately 100 countries, including ASEAN, Latin America, and the Middle East.
The India launch has not yet been officially confirmed. Therefore, it would not be correct to call it an India-bound model.
How big is the Mitsubishi Pajero’s comeback?
The Pajero nameplate debuted in 1982, and its total production across four generations has exceeded 3.29 million units. With the new generation, Mitsubishi has once again brought this iconic nameplate back to flagship status.
The All-New Mitsubishi Pajero is no longer just a nostalgic off-roader. With a 2.4-liter diesel, ladder-frame construction, SS4-II, S-AWC, seven seats, and a premium cabin, it is a major step for Mitsubishi towards challenging established players like the Toyota Land Cruiser.
And the most interesting thing is that instead of eliminating the rugged DNA of the old Pajero, the company has tried to combine it with premium comfort and modern technology.
