The 5.7-liter L76 V8 produces 402 hp and 428 lb-ft of torque. It replaces the outgoing 5.3-liter V8.

The larger 6.6-liter L78 V8 produces 481 hp and 501 lb-ft of torque. According to GM, it is the most powerful naturally aspirated V8 in the light-duty full-size pickup segment.

The 3.0-liter Duramax turbo-diesel inline-six will continue to be offered in the 2027 Chevy Silverado 1500 and Sierra 1500. The diesel engine develops 305 hp and 495 lb-ft of torque.

GM has also introduced an optional 34-gallon fuel tank. The 27 mpg highway rating of the 2WD Duramax configuration combined with the 34-gallon tank results in a calculated highway range of approximately 918 miles.

It’s important to note that 918 miles is not GM’s EPA-certified single-tank range figure; it’s the potential range derived from the 27 mpg highway rating × 34-gallon capacity.

The 34-gallon tank is available with the 5.7L V8, 6.6L V8, and 3.0L Duramax, while this option is not available with the 2.7L TurboMax.

The diesel strategy of the 2027 Chevy Silverado 1500 and Sierra is an interesting development in the US pickup market. According to Reuters, GM is continuing to pursue diesel efficiency, while Ford and Stellantis are focusing on hybrid solutions in the light-duty pickup segment.

GM’s updated Duramax produces 305 hp and 495 lb-ft of torque, and offers long-distance highway driving capability with an optional larger tank.
