New BMW i3 50 xDrive Gets 469 hp and 645 Nm

The new BMW i3 50 xDrive features electric motors on the front and rear axles. Together, the two motors generate a system output of 345 kW or 469 hp and a peak torque of 645 Nm. Power is sent to all four wheels via BMW’s xDrive all-wheel-drive system.
Performance also matches the electric sedan’s premium positioning. According to BMW’s official figures, the i3 50 xDrive completes 0-100 kmph in just 4.7 seconds, while the top speed is 200 kmph.
This variant features a 108.7 kWh high-voltage battery, delivering a maximum claimed WLTP range of 912 km. According to BMW’s latest data, the combined WLTP range is 814-912 km, which can vary depending on battery size and vehicle specifications.
The i3 40 xDrive will also be available in the BMW i3 lineup. This version produces 374 hp and 520 Nm and features an 82.8 kWh battery pack. Its claimed WLTP range is up to 710 km, with a maximum DC charging rate of 300 kW.
400 kW Fast Charging with 800V Technology

The charging system of the new BMW i3 is one of the most important technologies of this EV. BMW developed this sedan with 800V architecture, which is part of the sixth-generation BMW eDrive system.
The top-spec i3 50 can accept up to 400 kW of charging power on an xDrive-compatible DC fast charger. According to BMW, a 10-minute DC charging stop can add up to 423-424 km of WLTP range. Actual charging speed will depend on battery temperature, state of charge, charger capability, and other conditions.
BMW has also introduced bidirectional charging in the i3. Through this technology, the vehicle battery can exchange power with compatible energy systems, including vehicle-to-load, vehicle-to-home, and vehicle-to-grid applications, depending on market and equipment.
Neue Klasse Platform Brings New BMW Technology
The new BMW i3 is the first fully electric BMW 3 Series based on the Neue Klasse architecture. It utilizes sixth-generation BMW eDrive technology, new cylindrical battery cells, and an 800V electrical architecture.
According to BMW, the new battery cells have a 46 mm diameter and 95 mm height, and offer around a 20% improvement in volumetric energy density compared to previous-generation prismatic cells. The battery’s cell-to-pack construction also improves overall efficiency and packaging.
The car also features BMW’s Heart of Joy high-performance control computer. It manages electric drive, braking, energy recuperation, and certain steering functions. According to BMW, its response is up to 10 times faster than previous systems.

The available equipment list in the new i3 also includes features such as the BMW 3D Head-Up Display, multifunction seats, M Sport seats, and a premium audio system, depending on market and variant.

The front profile features a BMW kidney grille and twin headlamp elements, forming part of a unified light signature. The rear section features a horizontal tail-lamp design, while the overall body gets a sporty 2.5-box silhouette. The BMW i3 will be offered with a choice of 19-inch to 21-inch wheels.
Along with the BMW i3, the new-generation 3 Series is also available in petrol and 48V mild-hybrid models. The range-topping M350 xDrive produces 443 hp and 580 Nm with a 3.0-liter six-cylinder petrol engine and a 48V mild-hybrid system.
