Ferrari Luce Unveiled in India, First Electric Ferrari Packs 1,036bhp

Ferrari has officially unveiled its first all-electric car, the Ferrari Luce, in India. This marks a major milestone for the Italian performance carmaker, as the brand enters the era of electric mobility with the Luce.

But it’s not just a Ferrari with an electric powertrain. Its unconventional design, classic-inspired cabin, and high-performance electric technology make it quite distinct from the brand’s familiar cars.

The Ferrari Luce’s exterior design marks a radical departure from traditional Ferrari styling. Its smooth silhouette, glass-heavy surfaces, and aerodynamic elements give it a distinctive identity. However, its design isn’t guaranteed to appeal to all buyers. Inside, the company has emphasized physical buttons, mechanical switches, and tactile controls alongside modern digital technology.

Ferrari Luce Design: A Break from the Traditional Ferrari Look

Ferrari is known for its aggressive proportions and instantly recognizable styling, but the Luce follows a different design direction. Its smooth body profile, extensive glass surfaces, and aerodynamic detailing set it apart from conventional Ferrari sports cars.

This design approach attempts to establish a new identity with the electric platform. The Luce’s look may create debate among traditional Ferrari fans, but its unconventional character makes it distinctive.

Physical Buttons and Recycled Aluminum Steering Wheel in the Interior

The Ferrari Luce’s cabin is a major highlight. While modern cars are increasingly trending toward large touchscreens and minimalist dashboards, Luce brings back physical buttons, mechanical switches, aluminum dials, and tactile controls. These traditional elements are combined with digital displays.

The steering wheel also deserves special attention, as it’s machined from recycled aluminum. This approach attempts to combine classic automotive design elements with modern electric-car technology.

The cabin’s overall concept may appeal to drivers who prefer physical controls rather than relying on a touchscreen for every function.

Ferrari Luce Electric Powertrain: Four Motors, 1,036bhp

In terms of performance, the Ferrari Luce isn’t like a conventional electric family car. It features four electric motors, one for each wheel. Combined output is 1,036bhp, positioning it in the high-performance electric car segment.

According to Ferrari’s claimed figures, the Luce can complete 0-100kph acceleration in just 2.5 seconds. Its top speed exceeds 310kph. These figures show that Ferrari is prioritizing high-speed performance and rapid acceleration even with the electric powertrain.

Having a dedicated electric motor on each wheel provides the ability to control torque to individual wheels. The Luce also features sophisticated torque-vectoring technology, aimed at managing traction and handling under different driving conditions.

122kWh Battery and 530km-Plus Claimed Range

The Ferrari Luce features a 122kWh battery pack. According to the company, the car can offer a driving range of over 530km on a single charge. Actual range will vary depending on driving style, speed, temperature, and road conditions.

The battery supports DC fast charging up to 350kW. This high peak charging capability can help reduce charging times when suitable charging infrastructure is available. However, peak charging power does not mean that the battery will be charged at 350kW for the entire charging session.

The Luce’s bespoke electric platform has been engineered for a four-door, five-seat layout. It is also Ferrari’s first five-seater car, a significant departure from the brand’s traditional two-seat and limited-seat performance models.

Active Suspension and Four-Wheel Steering

In addition to the electric powertrain, the Ferrari Luce also features active suspension and four-wheel steering. The active suspension aims to manage body control and ride behavior according to driving conditions, while four-wheel steering can help improve maneuverability and high-speed stability.

The objective of combining these systems with torque vectoring is to convert high power output into a controllable driving experience. But the actual road performance of these technologies can only be assessed after detailed testing.

Auto India Daily Verdict

The Ferrari Luce represents a major transition for the brand. It boasts 1,036 bhp output, four electric motors, a 122 kWh battery, and a claimed range of over 530 km. Elements like physical controls and a recycled aluminum steering wheel distinguish it from other modern electric cars.

Its unconventional design may divide traditional Ferrari fans, but the Luce’s significance isn’t just limited to styling. It shows how Ferrari wants to carry its performance-focused identity into the electric era. The unveiling in India is a significant step, while details of local pricing, deliveries and availability will need to be confirmed separately.
