Triumph Bonneville T40 Gets Classic Bonneville Design

The Triumph Bonneville T40 design is heavily inspired by the larger Bonneville T100 and T120 models. The motorcycle features a teardrop-shaped fuel tank, round LED headlamp, long mudguards, a flat bench-style seat, and a traditional peashooter-style exhaust.
The T40 also features spoke wheels and twin rear shock absorbers, further strengthening its traditional retro-roadster appearance. Triumph has also added premium details such as hand-painted coach lining on the tank, rubber knee pads, a three-bar Triumph badge, and brushed aluminum engine covers.
The T40 is offered in three two-tone color combinations, while the T40 Black variant adds a more aggressive look to the Bonneville formula with darker styling.
349cc Engine Produces 29.1bhp and 31.2Nm
The Triumph Bonneville T40 is powered by Triumph’s 349cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine. This powertrain has been specifically tuned to suit the Bonneville’s relaxed riding character.

The engine produces maximum power of 29.1bhp at 7,000rpm and peak torque of 31.2Nm at 5,500rpm. Triumph has focused on low- and mid-range response, making the motorcycle suitable for both city riding and relaxed highway cruising.
The engine is paired with a six-speed gearbox, while a slip-and-assist clutch is also part of standard equipment.
Triumph Bonneville T40 Gets Five Riding Modes
One of the Bonneville T40’s most interesting highlights is its electronics package. The motorcycle features two customizable riding modes, including Road, Rain, and Eco.
Modes alter throttle response, traction control, and ABS intervention. Cruise control is also standard, providing added convenience during long-distance riding.
For safety, the motorcycle features lean-sensitive Optimized Cornering ABS and Optimized Cornering Traction Control.

4-Inch TFT with Navigation and Smartphone Connectivity

Despite its retro styling, the Bonneville T40’s technology package is quite modern. The motorcycle features a 4-inch full-color TFT display, integrated within the traditional circular instrument housing.
Heritage Mode is also available on the display, which converts the screen to an analogue-style Bonneville-inspired layout.
The T40 also offers full-map navigation with smartphone connectivity, music, and call controls. The motorcycle also features full-LED lighting, self-canceling indicators, a USB Type-C charging port, and Emergency Deceleration Warning.
790mm Seat Height and 195kg Kerb Weight
The Bonneville T40’s standard seat height is 790mm, while this can be reduced to 770mm with the optional low seat. The upright handlebar, relaxed footpeg position, and bench-style seat give the motorcycle a comfortable riding posture.
The motorcycle has a wet weight of 195kg and a fuel tank capacity of 14.5 liters. 18-inch front and 17-inch rear spoke wheels give the T40 a classic Bonneville stance.
Twin rear shocks and a conventional front fork also maintain a modern-classic character. A center stand is standard, making chain cleaning and regular maintenance easier.
Triumph Bonneville T40 Rivals Royal Enfield Classic 350

The Bonneville T40’s most important competition in India will be from traditional retro motorcycles like the Royal Enfield Classic 350 and Honda CB350. The Jawa 350 is also a significant rival in this segment.
With a starting price of Rs. 2.80 lakh, the T40 holds a premium position compared to these rivals, but Triumph’s focus isn’t just on engine performance. Bonneville design, premium detailing, modern electronics, and cornering rider aids give it a distinct identity in the segment.
Auto India Daily Verdict
The Triumph Bonneville T40 offers an interesting combination—classic Bonneville styling, a 349cc engine, and modern electronics. Priced at Rs. 2.80 lakh, it becomes a premium option in Triumph’s 350cc portfolio.
The T40’s biggest attraction will be for buyers who want the simplicity of a traditional roadster like the Royal Enfield Classic 350, along with premium design and advanced technology.
