Polestar 4 SUV Finally Gets A Rear Window And 391-Mile Range

Polestar has expanded its 4 lineup with a new Polestar 4 SUV, bringing a more practical body style to the brand’s electric performance SUV family.

The biggest talking point is not its power or range, though. It is the fact that the new SUV gets a conventional rear window, something the standard Polestar 4 famously does not have.

The new model retains the core design and technology of the Polestar 4 but gets a longer, more upright rear section aimed at improving practicality, rear visibility and luggage space.

The Polestar 4 SUV is available with rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive powertrains, with the range-topping version producing up to 544hp and 686Nm. Its maximum claimed WLTP range stands at 630km.

Polestar 4 SUV Gets A Conventional Rear Window

The biggest visual change compared with the existing Polestar 4 is at the rear.

The original Polestar 4 generated plenty of attention by ditching the conventional rear window altogether. Instead, it uses a roof-mounted rear camera and a digital rear-view mirror to provide the driver with a view behind the vehicle.

The new Polestar 4 SUV takes a more conventional approach. It gets a proper rear window and a traditional rear-view mirror as standard, while a digital rear-view mirror remains available as an option. This should make the new version more appealing to buyers who prefer conventional visibility and a more practical SUV layout.

The roofline is also straighter and the tailgate is more upright. Along with improving rear-seat space, this gives the new model a more estate-like appearance compared with the fastback profile of the regular Polestar 4.

More Practical Than The Regular Polestar 4

Polestar has focused heavily on practicality with the new body style.

The SUV offers 530 litres of luggage space behind the second row, measured up to the parcel shelf. When measured up to the roof, the available space increases to 655 litres. Folding the 60:40 split rear seats expands the luggage area to 1,665 litres.

There is also a 15-litre front storage compartment.

The revised roofline provides an additional 2.5cm of rear headroom, while the second-row seats have been redesigned to make the cabin more suitable for longer journeys.

A larger panoramic glass roof also extends towards the tailgate, giving the rear passengers a more spacious feel. An electrochromic version of the glass roof is available as an option on markets where offered.

630km Range From The 100kWh Battery

Underneath the new body, the Polestar 4 SUV continues to use the brand’s 400V architecture and a 100kWh battery pack.

There are two main powertrain options.

The entry-level Rear Motor version gets a single electric motor driving the rear wheels. It produces 272hp and 343Nm, allowing the SUV to accelerate from 0-100kmph in 7.3 seconds.

The more powerful Dual Motor version adds an electric motor to the front axle and produces 544hp and 686Nm. It is capable of accelerating from 0-100kmph in just 3.9 seconds.

Interestingly, the Dual Motor setup can disconnect the front motor when extra performance is not required, allowing the vehicle to prioritise efficiency during suitable driving conditions.

The Rear Motor version offers the highest claimed range at 630km WLTP, while the Dual Motor model is rated for up to 600km WLTP.

200kW Fast Charging

The Polestar 4 SUV supports DC fast charging at up to 200kW. According to Polestar’s specifications, the 100kWh battery can be charged from 10 to 80 percent in around 30 minutes under suitable conditions.

AC charging is available at up to 11kW, while a 22kW AC option is also listed for the single-motor version in certain markets.

Performance Version Also Available

For buyers wanting more performance, Polestar is also offering a Performance Pack for the Dual Motor version.

This package brings 22-inch forged alloy wheels, Pirelli P Zero tyres, Brembo brakes and specially tuned active ZF dampers. The chassis receives Polestar Engineered tuning aimed at delivering sharper handling compared with the standard setup.

The standard versions use 20-inch wheels, while the Performance Pack moves to the larger 22-inch setup.

New Features Add To Its Practicality

The Polestar 4 SUV also brings additional functionality designed around everyday use.

The model gets Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capability, allowing external electrical equipment to be powered from the vehicle’s battery. A dedicated Camping Mode is another new feature, allowing selected vehicle functions such as climate control and entertainment to remain active while the car is stationary.

These features are aimed at making the SUV more versatile for road trips and outdoor use. Some of the functionality is also planned to become available on existing Polestar 4 models through software updates.

Polestar 4 SUV Price And Production

The Polestar 4 SUV is manufactured in Busan, South Korea, and is being offered across a majority of Polestar’s markets. Production of the model has already started, with customer deliveries expected to begin in the fourth quarter of 2026.

In Germany, pricing starts at around €57,900 for the Rear Motor version, while the Dual Motor version starts at around €65,900. Pricing varies by market and equipment.

The new SUV will be sold alongside the existing Polestar 4 rather than replacing it. This gives customers a choice between the sleeker coupe-SUV body style and the new, more practical SUV version.

Polestar 4 SUV: A More Sensible Version Of A Radical EV

The Polestar 4 SUV is an interesting addition because it doesn’t completely reinvent the existing model. Instead, Polestar has taken the same basic electric performance formula and made it more practical.

The rear window alone could attract plenty of attention, especially among buyers who found the camera-only rear visibility setup of the standard Polestar 4 unusual.

Add the 630km WLTP range, 544hp dual-motor option, larger luggage area and improved rear-seat practicality, and the new SUV becomes a more conventional alternative without losing the performance-focused character of the Polestar 4.

For buyers looking for a premium electric SUV that combines long range, strong performance and greater everyday practicality, the Polestar 4 SUV could be one of the more interesting new EV launches of 2026.
