Polestar is preparing for a major design shift, and its new Polestar Formula 2030 concept has offered the first glimpse at what the brand’s next generation of electric cars could look like.
The concept has been created under Polestar design chief Philipp Römers, who joined the company in January 2025. Rather than abandoning the brand’s current identity, Formula 2030 is being positioned as a bold evolution of Polestar’s existing design language.

The design cues previewed by the concept are expected to influence the next-generation Polestar 2, planned for 2027, and the upcoming Polestar 7 compact SUV, planned for 2028.

Polestar Formula 2030 Previews a New Design Direction
The Formula 2030 is not intended to replace an existing Polestar model. Instead, it acts as a design statement for the company’s next phase.
Römers has described the direction as an evolution rather than a complete revolution. The objective is to make future Polestar models look distinctive and premium without making them unnecessarily aggressive.
One of the most recognizable elements will remain the brand’s Dual Blade lighting signature. The concept shows a new interpretation of this familiar design cue, suggesting that Polestar wants to retain visual continuity even as the proportions, surfacing and overall character of its cars evolve.
The concept will also explore new materials and sustainability-focused design ideas as Polestar develops its future model range.
Next Polestar 2 Will Take Inspiration From Formula 2030
The biggest production-car connection is the next-generation Polestar 2.
Polestar has already confirmed that the current sedan will be replaced by a completely new successor, with its launch planned for early 2027. The Formula 2030 concept will provide a preview of the design language that will carry into that car.
That means the next Polestar 2 should retain some of the visual identity that made the current model recognizable, while adopting a more modern interpretation of the brand’s signature lighting and body surfacing.

The Formula 2030 design direction will not be limited to the next Polestar 2.
Polestar has confirmed the Polestar 7, a compact premium SUV, for 2028. The model is expected to become an important part of the company’s future product strategy and will share the new visual direction previewed by Polestar Formula 2030.
This gives Polestar a chance to create a more consistent family appearance across different vehicle segments instead of designing each model as a standalone product.
Polestar Wants Bold Design Without an Aggressive Look

Reuters reported earlier this month that Polestar has been forced to exit the U.S. market because of restrictions targeting vehicles linked to China, with the company subsequently cutting its full-year delivery outlook.
That means the Formula 2030 design story is particularly interesting for the global market, but its relevance to future U.S. sales remains uncertain.
For now, Polestar’s confirmed roadmap is focused on launching its next-generation products in the coming years, with the Polestar 2 successor scheduled for 2027 and Polestar 7 for 2028.
