The 2027 Toyota Fortuner has once again been spied testing in Thailand, and the latest test mule has given an important clue about the rear design of the upcoming SUV.
Despite the heavy camouflage, the partially visible tail-light elements at the rear corners appear to be different from the temporary units seen earlier. This could be the production-spec lighting design, but Toyota is yet to confirm the official debut or India launch date of the next-generation Fortuner.

According to current reports, the India debut of the next-generation Fortuner is expected in 2027. Its front and rear testing mules were also spotted in February 2026, while the latest sighting indicates that the development program is ongoing. The new Fortuner is expected to receive updates closely related to Toyota’s latest Hilux.

2027 Toyota Fortuner Rear Design Gets New Tail-Light Clue
The rear portion of the SUV is still heavily camouflaged in the latest spy shots, so it’s not possible to clearly identify the complete design. However, the visible lighting sections on the outer edges differ from the previous test mule. Earlier prototypes featured a round exposed rear lamp element, while the latest vehicle appears to have a more production-like lighting signature.
The tailgate, complete tail-light assemblies, and rear bumper details are hidden beneath the camouflage. A shark-fin antenna on the roof is also visible. It’s not possible to confirm exact design elements from the spy shots at this stage, but the overall SUV stance and proportions clearly point towards the next-generation model.
Earlier front spy shots revealed indications of slimmer upper lighting elements, a larger grille, and a more sculpted front fascia. Radar and windscreen-mounted camera hardware were also reportedly visible on the test mule, suggesting Toyota may be evaluating additional driver-assistance technology on development vehicles. The India-spec feature list, however, is not yet confirmed.
New Hilux Could Offer Clues About Upcoming Fortuner
The recently launched ninth-generation Hilux is a useful reference for understanding the design and cabin updates of the 2027 Toyota Fortuner. Toyota launched the new Hilux in India in July 2026 with an ex-showroom price range of Rs. 31.99 lakh to Rs. 36.69 lakh.
