Bookings for the new hybrid model have started at Rs. 21,000. The biggest highlight of this powertrain is its claimed 29 kmpl fuel efficiency. Renault says that the SUV can give a driving range of more than 1,400 km on a full tank. These figures may vary in real-world conditions, but for high-end buyers, the hybrid option could make the Duster an interesting alternative.

New Renault Duster Hybrid Price and Variants

Renault has introduced the New Renault Duster Hybrid in three variants. Prices are introductory and ex-showroom.
| Variant | Price |
|---|---|
| Evolution | Rs. 16.99 lakh |
| Techno | Rs. 18.99 lakh |
| Emotion | Rs. 19.49 lakh |
Pricing for the entry-level Evolution variant attempts to make the hybrid SUV accessible to a wider buyer base. However, the final on-road price will vary depending on city, insurance, and applicable charges. Buyers should also calculate their annual running and expected fuel savings along with features when selecting a variant.
New Renault Duster Hybrid Powertrain and Performance
The Duster Hybrid features Renault’s E-Tech 160 strong-hybrid system. It combines a 1.8-liter, four-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine with two electric motors and a 1.4 kWh battery pack. According to the company, the system’s combined output is 158 bhp and 208 Nm.

Power delivery is handled by a multi-mode automatic gearbox, which differs from the e-CVT setup found in conventional hybrid rivals. Renault claims a 0-100kph acceleration time of 9.6 seconds. Its focus is not only on performance, but also on reducing fuel consumption by maximizing the use of electric assistance in city traffic.
The SUV features a 50-liter fuel tank. Based on Renault’s claimed 29 kmpl mileage and a 50-liter tank, the theoretical range is 1,450 km. The company’s claimed range of over 1,400 km aligns with such calculations, but actual range will depend on driving style, traffic, road conditions, and AC usage.
How does the hybrid system work in city driving?
According to Renault, the Duster Hybrid can operate in electric mode up to 80 percent of the time during city driving. This claim will depend on specific driving conditions; it does not mean that every owner will experience the same amount of EV-mode usage on every city journey.
The hybrid system manages the petrol engine and electric motors through different operating modes. In EV mode, the SUV can move on electric power, while in Dynamic Hybrid mode, the petrol engine and electric motors combine to power the wheels. In Electric Motion mode, the electric motor can propel the SUV, while the petrol engine helps charge the battery.
In ICE mode, the petrol engine is the primary power source, while Energy Recovery mode stores energy back into the battery during braking and deceleration. This way, the system manages the use of petrol and electric power according to driving conditions.

Renault claims that hybrid technology can reduce fuel consumption by up to 40 percent compared to a petrol-powered vehicle. This is the company’s claimed figure; actual savings will depend on the comparison vehicle and usage patterns.

What’s new in the New Renault Duster Hybrid?
The exterior design of the hybrid version is largely similar to the standard new-generation Duster. Instead of major visual changes, it gets a few specific details, including illuminated Renault lettering on the front and a ‘Hybrid E-Tech 160’ badge. The cabin features a dune-brown interior theme.
Feature highlights include Level 2 ADAS, a panoramic sunroof, and ventilated seats. Variant-wise feature availability will be a key factor in buyer decisions, so it’s best to confirm the exact variant equipment list before booking.
New Renault Duster Hybrid Rivals
With its strong-hybrid powertrain, the Duster will directly compete with the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Maruti Suzuki Victoris, and Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder. These models already target fuel-efficiency-focused buyers.
Renault’s claimed mileage of 29 kmpl gives the Duster Hybrid a strong position on paper. However, buyers shouldn’t base their decision solely on claimed efficiency. It’s also important to compare price, variant features, city and highway mileage, ownership costs, and local service support.
Another important aspect of the Duster Hybrid is its ability to offer strong fuel efficiency in the SUV segment without a diesel engine. For buyers who prefer a petrol-based powertrain over a diesel alternative, a strong hybrid could be an option—especially if a significant portion of their driving is in city traffic.
Auto India Daily Verdict
The New Renault Duster Hybrid Rs. 16.99 lakh starting price and claimed 29 kmpl efficiency make it a noteworthy addition to the strong-hybrid SUV segment. Its 1.8-liter petrol engine, two electric motors, and 1.4 kWh battery are designed to reduce fuel consumption in city driving.
But the final verdict will depend on real-world mileage, variant-wise equipment, and long-term ownership costs. If Renault’s claimed efficiency advantage is reflected in practical driving, the Duster Hybrid could become serious competition for the Grand Vitara, Victorias and Hyryder.
