Moto Guzzi The Trip Engine: 457cc Parallel-Twin Delivers 47.6hp

The Moto Guzzi The Trip is powered by a 457cc, liquid-cooled, parallel-twin engine, which is also used in the Aprilia Tuono 457. This engine produces a maximum power of 47.6hp at 9,400rpm and a peak torque of 43.5Nm at 6,500rpm. Transmission is handled by a 6-speed gearbox.

Interestingly, the Trip’s peak torque is delivered 200rpm earlier than the Aprilia Tuono 457. Despite the two motorcycles’ similar engine architecture, this difference can lead to slight variations in their performance characteristics.

Moto Guzzi and Aprilia are both part of the Piaggio Group. Sharing engine and mechanical components can help manage development and manufacturing costs.

New Chassis, Suspension, and Braking Setup

Despite engine sharing, the Moto Guzzi The Trip features a new chassis and swingarm setup. Suspension consists of 41mm upside-down forks at the front and an offset monoshock at the rear. Preload adjustment is available at both ends.

Braking hardware is carried forward from the Aprilia Tuono 457. A 320mm disc brake is provided at the front and a 220mm disc brake at the rear. The motorcycle rides on 17-inch wheels, highlighting its road-focused character.

The Trip’s seat height is 790mm, while the motorcycle’s stated weight is 180kg. It also features a 15-liter metal fuel tank. These specifications suggest a practical package for daily riding and weekend touring, although real-world comfort and handling can only be assessed after a road test.

Three Riding Modes, Traction Control, and Round TFT Display

Moto Guzzi The Trip also focuses on modern electronics. The motorcycle features a 3.6-inch circular TFT instrument cluster, which combines modern functionality with its retro design.

Riders have access to three riding modes—Road, Rain, and Sport—in addition. Traction control and dual-channel ABS are also part of the equipment package.

These features are particularly important because The Trip isn’t just a styling-focused retro motorcycle. Its electronics package makes it relevant in the modern middleweight roadster segment.

Moto Guzzi has announced three color options for The Trip:

  • Black Metropolis
  • Green Grove
  • Red Beat

In addition, the company has also introduced a special edition called The Opening.

The motorcycle’s overall concept focuses on combining the classic Moto Guzzi identity with a relatively compact and modern platform. Elements like the metal fuel tank and circular instrument cluster support this approach.

Moto Guzzi The Trip India Launch and Expected Price

The most interesting development is that the Moto Guzzi The Trip is being manufactured in India. However, this doesn’t necessarily mean the motorcycle will reach Indian showrooms. Piaggio has not yet announced its India launch date or official pricing.

The Aprilia Tuono 457 has an ex-showroom price of Rs. 3.99 lakh. Given the shared engine and components, the Trip’s pricing could be slightly lower than the Tuono 457, but this is just an expectation for now.

If Moto Guzzi introduces it in India, the motorcycle could attract buyers who want retro-inspired roadster styling with modern twin-cylinder performance.

Auto India Daily Verdict

The Moto Guzzi The Trip brings an interesting combination: Aprilia’s proven 457cc parallel-twin platform, a new chassis, and Moto Guzzi’s distinctive design identity. 47.6 hp power, a 790mm seat height, and three riding modes make it a promising middleweight roadster on paper.

The biggest questions for Indian buyers now are availability and pricing. Being India-made certainly makes the possibility of a local launch interesting, but without official confirmation, it would be premature to call it an upcoming India launch.
