KTM showcased the 2027 model year updates to its popular adventure motorcycle, the 2027 KTM 390 Adventure R, at EICMA 2026. The most noticeable change in this update is the cruise control feature.
Cruise control, which was standard equipment on the current model, will now become an optional add-on. The motorcycle also receives updated switchgear.

This change may affect riders considering the KTM 390 Adventure R for long-distance highway touring. However, KTM has not yet confirmed whether cruise control will be made optional on the India-spec 390 Adventure R. The motorcycle’s engine, suspension setup, and off-road hardware are largely familiar.

2027 KTM 390 Adventure R: What’s New?
The biggest update on the 2027 KTM 390 Adventure R is the cruise control functionality. Until now, this feature has been part of the standard equipment package, but will be offered as an optional accessory in the updated model.

KTM has also updated the switchgear to accommodate this change. Making cruise control optional could create additional expense for buyers, particularly for riders who regularly use this feature during highway touring.
However, KTM has not yet revealed the pricing of the optional cruise control. Furthermore, the overall pricing and launch timeline for the 2027 model are pending.
399cc LC4C Engine Continues Without Changes
On the mechanical front, the 2027 KTM 390 Adventure R continues to feature the existing 399cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder LC4C engine. This powertrain produces 45 bhp of maximum power and 39 Nm of peak torque.
The engine is paired with a 6-speed gearbox and also features a slip-and-assist clutch. This powertrain focuses on providing highway performance along with suitable power delivery for off-road riding.
Currently available information does not mention any major mechanical changes to the engine output or transmission.

Fully Adjustable WP Apex Suspension and Off-Road Hardware

The 2027 KTM 390 Adventure R suspension setup is one of its biggest strengths. The motorcycle features fully adjustable WP Apex suspension units, which offer 230mm of travel at both the front and rear ends.
It uses a lightweight two-piece trellis frame. The wheel setup includes a 21-inch front and 17-inch rear combination, suitable for off-road riding.
The Adventure R features tube-type tires with spoked wheels. In comparison, the 390 Adventure S’s wheel configuration and overall setup are significantly different. The R variant focuses on more demanding off-road conditions and rough terrain.
Features and Electronic Rider Aids
The electronic package of the 2027 KTM 390 Adventure R is also largely familiar. The motorcycle features a six-axis IMU and ride-by-wire throttle. It comes with multiple riding modes and switchable lean-sensitive traction control.
Safety features include cornering ABS, while KTM’s bidirectional Quickshifter+ makes gear changes more convenient. Dedicated off-road riding modes are also available, which help adjust the motorcycle’s electronic responses to different terrain conditions.
The instrument console features a 5-inch full-color TFT display. It supports map navigation and smartphone connectivity.
2027 KTM 390 Adventure R Price and India Launch

The currently available KTM 390 Adventure R is priced at Rs. 3.86 lakh (ex-showroom, India). However, updated pricing for the 2027 model has not yet been announced.
The most important question is whether the India-spec motorcycle will have cruise control. KTM has not yet confirmed whether this will be removed from standard equipment and made an optional accessory in the Indian version. Therefore, domestic buyers will have to wait for updated India-specific specifications.
Launch and pricing details for the 2027 model in the international market are also pending. There has been no official announcement from the company regarding the India launch timeline either.
Auto India Daily Verdict
The update to the 2027 KTM 390 Adventure R appears to focus more on equipment strategy than mechanical changes. The 399cc LC4C engine, 230mm suspension travel, 21/17-inch wheel combination, and advanced electronic rider aids keep it an off-road-focused adventure motorcycle.
However, making cruise control an optional add-on from standard equipment is an important change for touring-oriented buyers. Its impact in India will only become clear once KTM confirms the features and pricing of the domestic-spec model. For now, the key highlight of this motorcycle is the existing performance and familiar off-road hardware.
